アメリカ陸軍が開発した全長200ｍの４脚歩行戦車「ゴング」は、３週間のテストを終え、乗員交代のためランデブー地点へと向うが、砂漠中央の露天堀りの巨大な穴に転落してしまった。その模様をキャッチした救助隊は１号と２号を現場に派遣、ブレインズのプランのもと救助を開始した。
