Quan l'avió on viatja Nikolai "Kolya" Rodchenko ha de fer un aterratge d'emergència en sòl soviètic, el mundialment famós ballarí té raons per sentir-se inquiet: uns anys abans, quan era la gran estrella del ballet rus i una icona de la propaganda comunista, Kolya va desertar i es va instal·lar als Estats Units.
